Our Mission Statement
Ōhope Christian Camp exists to provide a place of manaakitanga (hospitality, kindness, and care), connection, growth, and renewal for people of all ages and backgrounds.
As a ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, our work is inspired by Christian faith and values. We seek to create a welcoming environment where individuals, families, schools, churches, and community groups can gather, learn, celebrate, rest, and build meaningful relationships.
We are committed to serving both the Church and the wider community, caring for the beautiful environment entrusted to us, and fostering a sense of belonging for all who come here.
Our History
Ōhope Christian Camp has served both the Church and the wider community for nearly a century. Established in the early twentieth century by Presbyterian leaders, the camp was created as a place for Christian fellowship, learning, recreation, and hospitality.
For 95 years, Easter Camps have been held at Ōhope, introducing generations of young people to the Christian faith while fostering leadership, community, and lifelong friendships. Over time, the camp has grown to welcome church groups, schools, community organisations, and families from all backgrounds who come to enjoy its unique setting and facilities.
Its location alongside the local church and in relationship with Ōhope Marae reflects a unique history of shared place and community connection. Today, the camp continues under Presbyterian stewardship, remaining true to its Christian heritage while welcoming guests of all faiths and none. It is a place where people can find rest, connection, learning, and hospitality in a beautiful coastal environment.
Who We Are
Nestled across the road from beautiful Ōhope Beach, Ōhope Christian Camp is a family-oriented, faith-based camp and retreat venue welcoming schools, churches, families, community groups, and guests from all backgrounds.
With comfortable accommodation, group facilities, and easy access to the beach, local walks, surf lessons, paddleboarding, cafés, and kiwi experiences, it’s the perfect place to gather, relax, and explore.
For generations, people have returned to Ōhope Christian Camp to enjoy genuine hospitality, build meaningful connections, and create treasured memories that last a lifetime.
