Who can stay at Ōhope Christian Camp?

We welcome individuals, families, schools, churches, community groups, and organisations from all backgrounds. You do not need to be Christian to stay with us.

Yes, Ōhope Christian Camp is open throughout the year, subject to availability and group bookings.

Bookings are recommended, especially during peak holiday periods and for group events.

Yes. We regularly host school camps, church retreats, family reunions, ministry events, workshops, and community groups.

In many cases, yes. Exclusive use of the camp may be available depending on the size of your group and existing bookings. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Accommodation capacity varies depending on the mix of cabins and camping spaces required. Please contact us to discuss your group's needs.

Minimum numbers may apply for exclusive use bookings. Please contact us to discuss your event and we will advise on the best option.

We aim to keep our facilities affordable and may be able to offer special rates for eligible groups. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.

What accommodation options are available?

We offer cabin accommodation as well as camping options for those bringing their own tents or camping equipment.

Cabins have mattresses with mattress protectors. You will need to bring your own bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets, etc.)

Yes, all our campsites have access to power. Please ensure that your vehicle has a valid EWOF as we are unable to accommodate you if you do not have one.

Unfortunately as the camp is in a Kiwi conservation area we are unable to accommodate pets at the camp

What facilities are available on-site?

Guests have access to an ablutions block, catering kitchen, dining facilities, meeting spaces, beautiful grounds and gardens, and outdoor recreation areas.

Yes. Our catering kitchen is available for group bookings and can support self-catered events.

Yes. External caterers are welcome. If advance access to facilities is needed, please contact us to arrange this.

Yes. We have an indoor gathering space suitable for meetings, worship services, workshops, and group activities.

Yes. Day-use hire may be available for meetings, workshops, retreats, celebrations, and community events. Contact us to discuss availability.

Can we use the church on-site?

Yes. Our church building can be hired for a nominal fee for worship services, weddings, memorials, retreats, and other appropriate events.

Yes. The camp's grounds, facilities, and church make it a wonderful venue for family gatherings and special occasions.

How close is the beach?

Ōhope Beach is directly across the road from the camp, making beach access quick and easy.

Popular activities include swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, fishing, walking and cycling tracks, kiwi-spotting experiences, and exploring the local Ōhope and Whakatāne area.

Yes. Several cafés, restaurants, and convenience stores are within walking distance or a short drive away.

We may be able to recommend local activity providers, including surf schools and nature experiences.

Our indoor facilities provide comfortable spaces for groups to gather and continue activities during wet weather. We are also happy to suggest alternative options for your group.

Do I need to be Christian to stay at the camp?

No. We welcome guests from all faith backgrounds and those with no faith affiliation.

As part of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, we seek to provide a welcoming environment grounded in Christian values such as hospitality, community, respect, and care for others.

We value our relationship with the Christian marae located behind the camp and are exploring opportunities for greater collaboration and shared hospitality in the future.

Is the camp smoke-free?

Yes. The entire campsite is smoke-free and vape-free

To ensure a safe and family-friendly environment, illegal drugs are not permitted on the property. Alcohol is permitted for guests 18+ only, and must be consumed responsibly within your allocated area. Parties, excessive drinking, and disruptive behaviour are not allowed.
